SOBERMIND RECORDS PRESSING INFO

Alright, it took and will take me forever to find all the correct and accurate info on pressings...if you feel the urge to correct me on certain things, please drop me a line. Prove me wrong on my own label knowledge. Check this one now and then, as the info will be updated now and then.

----------------------------------------------
SMR01- 1993
SPIRIT OF YOUTH 'engine/darkroom'
Format: Cassette only
Amount: 300
Sleeve pic: Geert Verbeke
These songs where recorded in one afternoon in some shitty recording studio where most bands at that time recorded their stuff . The tape was sold-out on the SPIRIT OF YOUTH winter tour 93-94, most of the dates where with NATIONS ON FIRE, mostly Germany and one date in Austria on New Years eve. There's few people who still have that original tape...it was professionally printed and sealed.

-----------------------------------------------
SMR02- 1994
BLINDFOLD/ENCOUNTER split 7"ep.
Format: 7" vinyl
Amount: 1000
Color vinyl: NO
Test Presses: 6
500 got distributed in Europe, 500 in the rest of the world.
Sleeve pic: Geert Verbeke

Another hard to find record, sold out quickly in the States, coz ENCOUNTER was pretty big there ...BLINDFOLD sold these at shows and got rid of them in a jiffy.I've seen one go at ebay for $40 and also one for $1. Just a matter of luck.

-----------------------------------------------
SMR03- 1994
AMULET 's/t'
Format: CD only
Amount: 1000
Color vinyl: NO

After doing the BLINDFOLD/ONWARD 1992 tour, I kinda stayed in touch with the Onward folks, the band split-up and half of the band started doing something new called... AMULET, comparable with Lifetime-Dag nasty kind of stuff...totally great stuff. That debut cd is pretty hard to find and obscure in the meantime, did I mention they ended up on Sony records at the very end of the band. I always have been a huge fan of the artwork.

-----------------------------------------------
SMR04- 1995
SEKTOR 'Ultimate Threat'
Format: 7"ep/MCD
Amount: 1000 7"'s (black)-2000 mcd
Color vinyl: NO

Sleeve pic: Geert Verbeke
SEKTOR has always been my favorite band on the label, because I liked their down to earth attitude and their work ethic, the band loved to tour and to play out, they played the shittiest places in East-Germany, they crossed the border to the Chech republic without any passports in order to play a show there...which ended up in a fist-fight with a local drunk who was out for a fight.
Their debut release is just awesome, not tight and not technical..but definitely straight from the heart.

-----------------------------------------------

SMR05- 1996
VITALITY 'Bloodlines'
Format: MCD
Amount: 1000 mcd ( cd format only)
Color vinyl: NO

I remember seeing VITALITY for the first time, and I was blown away by them immediately just like many kids. The pit exploded and kids went berserk. They where unsigned, so I definitely was interested in that band, they became pretty good friends over the years, and most of the people in the band are still in ODK CREW. Note the cool artwork done by the same artist (Tourist) who did the art for CONGRESS's 'Blackened Persistance'. A 500 made 10" was planned for that release, but the budget was too tight.

-----------------------------------------------

SMR06- 1996
SEKTOR/VITALITY split
Format: MCD
Amount: 300 7" + 500 7"
Color vinyl: 1st tourpress: 100 brown Vinyl Yellow and orange sleeve/200 black vinyl
2nd re-press (1996): 500 clear Vinyl Blue Sleeve.
Both bands did a tour in Winter 96-97 across Germany, and this 7" was a perfect promotional item for sure. SEKTOR recorded two songs exclusively, while VITALITY used a different mix from some songs of their mcd. The lay-out was assembled cut and paste xerox style last minute and the tour took off with two different van's...a complete tour report can be find in H8Z and might be written out here later on. The 100 made brown vinyl one must be in collections in Germany mostly.
The 7" sold out pretty fast and almost a year later it got re-pressed on clear vinyl with a pro-printed sleeve. Still a rare and sought after gem though.

-----------------------------------------------
SMR07- 1996 (split release with Goodlife recordings)
BLINDFOLD 'Asteroid 164'
Format: LP/CD
Amount: 1000 LP-2000 CD
Color vinyl: NO
Sleeve pic: Geert Verbeke

Check what Bjorn Rise&Fall has to say about the release...

-----------------------------------------------

SMR08- 1997
SPIRIT OF YOUTH 'Source'
Format: LP/CD
Amount: 500 LP-1000 CD
Color vinyl: 100 Mint Green/ 10 Charcoal grey/390 Black Vinyl
Sleeve pic: Geert Verbeke

-----------------------------------------------

SMR- 1997
SEKTOR 'Human Spots Of Rust'
Format: LP/CD
Amount: 1000 LP-1000 CD
Color vinyl: 100 pink/400 Black Vinyl
Sleeve pic:

To many the SEKTOR full lenght was the best and to others the worst they have released, I loved both releases for sure. Definitely underated and very essential in h8000 history. Like said before the band loved playing out and just did their stuff. Since we got both formats, note the different artwork for the vinyl...this release is essential in any collection.

-----------------------------------------------

SMR- 1997
SPINELESS 'Painfields'
Format: 7"ep/MCD
Amount: 500 7"-1000 MCD
Color vinyl: 100 white-grey marbled/400 Black Vinyl
Sleeve pic:

-----------------------------------------------

SMR- 1998
FIRESTONE 'element'
Format: 12"/MCD
Amount: 500 12"-1000 MCD
Color vinyl: 100 fleshcolor/400 Black Vinyl
Sleeve pic:

-----------------------------------------------
SMR- 1998
V/A h8000 hardcore compilation vol.1
Format: 12"/CD
Amount: 500 12"-1000 CD
Color vinyl: 100 mint green/400 Black Vinyl
Test Presses: 8
Sleeve pic:
I'm still proud that SMR was the first label that made a compilation with just h8000 bands, mostly all active bands from that time, 96-98 where the most active times here and this release documents what was going on at that time. The only thing I do regret is the super ugly lay-out. Onno was not in charge for this one, and you can tell.

11 opmerkingen:

  1. Hi, I just took note of the fact that there exist a red sleeve version of the Sektor / Vitality split 7". And that some of these came on bordeaux vinyl also.

A 10" of Bloodline; that would have been so huge. I always wondered why this wasn't released op vinyl.

whats the story with all the 1999 and further releases? like 18 visions, unconquered and purification? was that another label by the same name or what? i always thought it was still the same label, but i never understood the catalog numbers...

  10. So the orange & yellow sleeves have the brown vinyl and are limited to 100 copies in total? Then how come I see pics on the internet of a yellow sleeve with black vinyl??
